I love to watch seasonal movies. I like to watch cozy Halloween movies, but I also like to watch horror. I just don’t like a lot of violence and gore. I think Halloween would be a perfect movie, for instance, if it didn’t have…the murders.
Five On Friday posts offer you bite-sized ideas, prompts, or thoughts built around a theme to take into your weekend, so today, I’m sharing five scary movies where the violence is minimal or non-existent.
Rosemary’s Baby
Rosemary’s Baby (1968) is not only an excellent horror movie, it’s one of the best movies ever made, in my opinion. I tend to watch it during October, but you could definitely make an argument for watching it in the heat of summer. You can find it on Amazon Prime.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers is my favorite, but I love the original, too. I watch the 70’s version every year and I love it every time. You can find it on Amazon Prime.
Burnt Offerings
Burnt Offerings (1976) gives us Bette Davis and Karen Black. I don’t know if it will actually scare you, but it’s creepy and it’s wonderfully 70’s. It’s a great late night watch. You can find it on Tubi.
The Changeling
The Changeling (1980), like Burnt Offerings, stars a house. Rather than being shocking, it’s a psychological drama built around sorrow, and that’s my favorite. You can find it on Tubi.
Don’t Look Now
Lastly, I’m going to recommend another Donald Sutherland movie, and another horror movie about grief, Don’t Look Now (1973.) It’s dreamy and inventive. You can find it on Pluto TV.
I hope you have a great Halloween! Let me know what you think if you watch any of these! xoxoxo
