Hello. It’s Friday and it’s October, the month when I come up above ground and fully inhabit my body. This is when I come alive, and I will be alive, above ground, until late March or mid-April. This is my season. This is when I am the most creative, the most hopeful, and have the most energy.
This October, of course, is happening during the incredible stress of the most consequential presidential election of our lifetimes. So yesterday, I took a walk to look at Halloween decorations and political yard signs.
And today, I feel inspired to begin this new weekly series.
Five On Friday posts will offer you bite-sized ideas, prompts, or thoughts built around a theme to take into your weekend, and I’m starting off today with five ways to nurture your creative spirit:
Begin your day with ritual
It’s so easy and so transformative. Light a candle or a stick of incense, write in your journal, meditate, repeat a mantra, do some yoga, take a few deep breaths, stir your intentions into your coffee, rub oils into your skin - create a ritual that feels good to you, that feels like you, and repeat it first thing every day.
Interact with the natural world
Go outside and put your feet on the ground. Watch the trees. Talk to plants. Smell flowers. Take pictures of bees. Notice patterns in the clouds. Find some time everyday to be conscious of the interconnectedness of life.
Pull a card
Get out that oracle or tarot deck and ask a question about your latest creative project or idea. Write down all of your thoughts and feelings about the imagery on the card. What is the message your soul wants you to hear?
Listen to something new
Find a genre of music you’ve never listened to before and…listen. Dancing is optional, but encouraged.
Journaling prompt:
Write about a time when you felt deeply connected to the world around you.
Get out there and have a great weekend! And please let me know how you plan to nurture your creative spirit! xoxoxo
