I’ve written a lot of things on the internet over the years - some things I still stand by and some things I don’t. Of all of the things I’ve written, there’s one thing that seems to rile people up more than anything else. When I say this thing there is always kick back, always vehement opposition. The thing is some version of this:
Trust your heart. Listen to the wisdom in your heart. Allow your heart to lead.
There are a couple of reasons this is triggering for people, not the least of which is the conflation of the heart with romantic love or sexual attraction. When I talk about trusting your heart, I am not talking about trusting in romantic love or sexual attraction. (Romantic love and sexual attraction are great, but maybe not trustworthy.)
When I talk about the heart, I am talking about the voice within you, the eternal divine part of you that loves, that experiences joy, that expands, that reaches out, that imagines, and creates. I am talking about intuition, about the real you.
