It’s the last day of October, and this is the LOVE LIST, where I share the things I loved this month and give you a bit of a life & studio update. 🎃
There are currently 54 of you subscribed to this newsletter. 54! I’m pouring 54 cups of coffee for you right now. Here you go. Would you like some cinnamon? Please have a seat. Get comfy. I’m so happy you’re here.
We celebrated two family birthdays.
Tracy and I dressed as Mothman and a Mothman experiencer for our street’s Halloween block party.
I released another chapter of Cosmic Heart. This is going out to paid subscribers from now on, so please check it out and see if you’re interested.
We went to the pumpkin trail at McConnell Springs.
Honestly, Halloween (holiday of my heart) just isn’t hitting this year the way it normally does. I’m giving it my best effort, but existing in a watershed moment for American history is draining the life out of me. An absolute highlight this month, though, was when a group from my neighborhood walked in the Halloween parade. So. Much. Fun.
Angela Carter and the “So Fucking What?” Approach to Writing
They’re idiots. Why don’t they trust us?
Happiness. Catch it where you can.
Big Broad Thoughts on the Election
This is Just a Good And Normal Story About the Occult Forces Infiltrating Five Below Stores
The Infinite Well of Capitalistic Wanting and the False Promise of Manifestation
This episode of Bridget’s new podcast Ghost Bunny made me want to book a flight to California. (I mean, I pretty much always want to book a flight to California.)
Julia Gets Wise With Jane Goodall (one of Earth’s very best humans.)
I started listening to Ina Garten reading her memoir Be Ready When Luck Happens, and I’m captivated.
Will & Harper. I was moved by Harper’s story and her strength and vulnerability in sharing it.
If I had a time machine, I’d definitely go to the Camden Palace 1983. (There’s also a powerful youth serum built into the time machine.) Do you ever wonder what the inside of me looks like? Goths and Cureheads 4ever. Listen, I might be planning a new romantics goth ball right this very moment.
Penelope - If you like teenaged protagonists and trees, I think you’ll like this.
I don’t even know what to say about this.
Vice President Kamala Harris on Call Her Daddy 🔥
And on Howard Stern. I’m as surprised as anyone to find that I agree with Howard Stern about a lot of things. When he said in this interview that he didn’t like the Maya Rudolph bit on SNL, I yelled, Yes! at my TV because I had said these exact words to Tracy about that first cold open. There’s way too much is at stake here to be treating this like a normal campaign and election. It is not.
There are a handful of people in the public eye to whom I will give my entire attention when they speak. Michelle Obama is one of those people. This speech was phenomenal.
I got a mannequin. I did purchase it for a reason (online re-sale vintage and thrift, anyone?) but it is so fun to play with. I dressed it as an 80’s Madonna-esque witch for Halloween.
Tracy and I decided to go halfsies on a Vitamix as our Christmas present to one another, only we had to do it in October because we needed that discounted price. Listen. It has revolutionized the way we eat. If you own one, Life is NOYOKE and Raw Blend are both excellent sources of information and recipes.
And that’s it for the month of October 2024. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Hydrate, breathe, and vote. Turnout is how we do this. Know your voting rights. By the time you read this, I will likely already be in line.
Love you and thanks for reading.
